One of the best ways to improve your site’s visibility on the web, as well as put in some extra search engine optimization love, is blogging. I think the stigma about blogging within even large organizations has, for the most part, faded out over the last few years. Now, when companies publish one or more blogs on their website, it’s seen as a sign of transparency and open communication between the company and its customers or clients.
The benefit to SEO when it comes to blogging is twofold: first, your site will have more content than it otherwise would. Presumably, the blog entries being written will have something to do with your business’s core mission and therefore will provide more meat for search engines to latch on to. Blogging can also increase the frequency with which search engines visit your site, especially if you’re using something like WordPress which can be set up to automatically notify search engines whenever you make new posts.
So, with blogging, you get lots of benefits to your visibility on the net. With any size of organization, there is probably going to be someone (or several people) who would love to write a company blog. As long as the users have interesting news to post (and can be trusted to use discretion!), there’s really no downside to starting a company blog.
I’d love to provide advice about setting up a blog or about search engine optimization to any Lincoln companies that are interested in boosting their web presence (and therefore boosting their business!).
Edit: Just came across a great post which is very relevant: The 8 Habits of Highly Effective Bloggers. If you’re thinking about starting a blog, this is a great article on a great site.
Til next time,
Jason
