I know there are many small businesses out there with no presence on the web and no immediate plans to get one. The excuses might go something like “I don’t know anything about computers” or “I’m afraid it will cost too much.” Those fears are understandable, but they are not valid.
You don’t need to know anything about computers to have a website.
Sure, it helps if you have a computer and can check email. But beyond that, web developers like me can take care of everything else. I can register your domain name ( that’s the yourbusiness.com ). I can set up web hosting ( that’s the computer on the other end of the Internet that sends your website to people when they type in your domain name ). I take what you want to see and make it into a friendly, easy-to-use site.
A website is a very affordable and very effective way to advertise.
Do you advertise? At all? If so, you know how little you get for how much you pay. I truly believe that simply having a website is the most cost-effective form of advertising there is. You pay a relatively small fee to have it created, and even smaller fees for hosting and domain name renewal. And what do you get? A full-color, interactive information buffet, available to anyone, anywhere, 24 hours a day. The old forms of advertising simply can’t keep up.
If your website was made in 1995, it’s probably time for a new one.
All good things must come to an end. In all likelihood, websites created more than 10 years ago are simply going to look shoddy compared to the competition. The technology of today just wasn’t available back then. There is probably still plenty of great information on your website, it just needs a new format.
