I’ve talked with many people over the years who are very concerned about the design of their website but who, when it comes time to actually create or add content to the site, are suddenly struck dumb. I don’t mean that in a harsh way – the simple fact of the matter is, they haven’t put in the time and the effort to think about what type of information they want to have on their website.
Whether you were getting a new web site created or redesigning your existing web site, if you don’t have information that is useful and pertinent to your customers, your site is not going to do as well as it could. As I’ve said before, you will do more work on your site than your web designer will.
If you are currently thinking about having web site created, now has the right time to start thinking about what type of content you want to include on that side. Whether it’s informative articles, entertaining videos, or photographs of your business your products or wherever else are trying to promote, it is the content on your site that’s going to keep users there and turn them into customers.
I think some people are intimidated when it comes to creating content for their website. They look at it as if their writing a novel that’s going to be stored in the library of Congress are something. Well, of course, if you think about it that way, you’re going to get a little bit of stage fright. The great thing about the weather is that if you decide later but what you wrote was irrelevant boring or stupid, you can always go out and replace it with something better.
Start writing right now. Start brain storming. Put some ideas down on paper. What have you got to lose?
